Wordsmiths Books One Year Anniversary Extravaganza
Friday, June 13, 2008 - Sunday, June 15, 2008
Wordsmiths Books
545 N. McDonough St., Decatur
As of June 15, 2008, Wordsmiths Books will have had its doors open to the public for exactly one year. That’s one year of author events, one year of local, national and international touring musicians, one year of striving to be more than just Decatur’s premiere independent bookstore.
To celebrate the past year, and to look towards the future, Wordsmiths is using our one-year birthday as an excuse to gather up our old friends, and make some new ones. The weekend of June 13-15 will be filled with music, authors, poets, food and festivities-basically, this is just an excuse for us to throw a massive three-day get-together with our friends (which means YOU!).
Check out our list of anniversary events:

| Local Musicians
Friday, June 13 at 7:00 PM
Starting at 7 PM, Friday the 13th will be a night of some of the best local music to hit the Wordsmiths stage:
7 PM The Lady Vanishes - Sunny and smart 60s-influenced café pop.
8 PM Eryn McHugh - Called a "radio-ready chanteuse" by Creative Loafing, Erin's lush and lovely confessional tales are subtle and brilliant.
9 PM Lou Martyr - Formerly Lou of One Hand Loves the Other, the beloved and ground-breaking electronic/classical/pop hybrid fusion that won fans and massive acclaim.
10 PM Random Rabbit - Pretty, rocking electronic jam band with a deep, downtempo feel.

At 2 PM on Saturday, June 14, we welcome our friends from Poetry Atlanta for an all-star Poetry Atlanta Wordsmiths Birthday Takeover, featuring some of the biggest and best local poets in the city. Curated by Poetry Atlanta head and stunning local verse-layer Collin Kelley, Saturday’s Poetry Atlanta Birthday Takeover features Kodac Harrison, Megan A. Volpert, and Karen Head. All have graced the Wordsmiths stage before, and all are amazing. Collin himself might even bring a surprise or two to the stage.

Toni McGee Causey, J. L. Miles, CJ Lyons, Derek Nikitas
Saturday, June 14 at 7:00 PM
Starting at 7 PM and going all evening and into the night, we're thrilled to present the BabyGotBooks.com-sponsored Bobbie Faye Fais Do-Do Crawfish Boil and Author Shindig, featuring authors J. L. Miles, CJ Lyons, and Toni McGee Causey, whose first novel, Bobbie Faye's Very (Very, Very, Very) Bad Day, was one of Wordsmiths Books favorite books of 2007. In celebration of her Louisiana-based new novel, Bobbie Faye's (Kinda, Sorta, Not Exactly) Family Jewels, we'll be, along with our co-sponsors from the BabyGotBooks lit blog, throwing down with a good, old-fashioned crawfish boil. "Fais Do-Do" means Cajun party, and that's just what we're prepared to have.
J. L. Miles will also be signing her new novel, Divorcing Dwayne.
CJ Lyons will also be signing her medical thriller, Lifelines.
Derek Nikitas will also be signing his Edgar-nominated literary thriller, Pyres.
Free food, free drinks, free merriment, and some of the best authors to ever grace the Wordsmiths stage. You do NOT want to miss the crazy fun and chaos of the Bobbie Faye Fais Do-Do.

Instore sales; special, crazy, spontaneous discounts; and special, crazy, spontaneous dancing are all guaranteed to be a part of Wordsmiths Books 1st Birthday Weekend, and we might even get Wordsmiths owner Zach to make some sort of heartfelt, tearful speech and thank “the academy.” All this and more (and possibly Scrabble!) as Wordsmiths celebrates one year of being a part of the Decatur community, comfortably and conveniently located on the Decatur Square.
